Begin your diver training with Jeff’s Diving World through a flexible combination of online theory, practical workshops, swimming-pool skill development and four open-water dives.

The course is designed to fit around your availability. You can complete the online learning in your own time before arranging the practical workshops, pool session and qualifying dives directly with Jeff.

Complete the Diving Theory Online

The theory section is delivered through an easy-to-follow e-learning programme that you can complete at your own pace.

Your online diving theory training includes:

  • Knowledge reviews
  • Interactive quizzes
  • Essential diving safety information
  • Equipment and underwater skills theory
  • A final examination

Once you have completed the e-learning modules and final exam, contact Jeff to arrange for your completed work to be checked and reviewed.

Practical Diving Workshops

After successfully completing the theory section, Jeff will provide a selection of practical workshops to help prepare you for the confined-water and open-water stages of the course.

The workshops include:

Compass and Underwater Navigation

Learn how to correctly use a diving compass, follow planned headings and improve your confidence when navigating underwater.

DSMB Training

Understand how to prepare, deploy and safely use a delayed surface marker buoy during a dive.

Diving Equipment Assembly

Learn how to correctly assemble and check your scuba-diving equipment before entering the water.

Equipment Disassembly and Care

Jeff will also demonstrate how to safely disassemble, inspect and care for your diving equipment after use.

Two-Hour Pool Training Session in Portland

A suitable date will be arranged for a visit to the pool in Portland, where you will complete approximately two hours of practical skill training.

During the pool session, you will develop and demonstrate the essential skills required to dive safely and confidently.

The session will include:

  • Scuba-equipment familiarisation
  • Water-entry and exit procedures
  • Breathing underwater
  • Mask and regulator skills
  • Buoyancy-control practice
  • Emergency procedures
  • Watermanship assessments
  • General underwater confidence development

The confined-water environment provides a safe and controlled setting in which to practise before progressing to open-water diving.

Four Open-Water Training Dives

The final stage of the course consists of four open-water dives.

These will normally be completed as:

  • Two dives on the first day
  • Two dives on the second day

The dates can be arranged flexibly to suit your availability, weather conditions and the planned dive location.

During the open-water dives, you will put your theory knowledge and pool skills into practice under professional supervision.
