Diving in Dahab, Egypt: Three Days Exploring the Red Sea

Dahab, Egypt, offers a memorable mix of well-known dive sites, warm Red Sea water and a relaxed atmosphere between dives. On my recent trip, I booked three days of diving with Octopus World Dahab and explored the Blue Hole, Canyon, Tiger Reef, the Caves and Three Pools.
For me, a good dive trip is about more than the time spent underwater. The organisation, the people you dive with and the chance to share stories afterwards all contribute to the experience. Dahab delivered on those fronts, and I’m looking forward to sharing some photos of the members who joined the adventure.
Three days of diving in Dahab
The conditions during my visit were excellent. Water temperatures were around 28–30°C, with visibility of more than 30 metres. That clarity made it particularly enjoyable to take in the shape and colour of the dive sites.
Across the three days, we visited:
- The Blue Hole, one of Dahab’s best-known diving locations
- The Canyon
- Tiger Reef
- The Caves
- Three Pools
Each site gave us a different part of Dahab to explore. The variety kept the itinerary interesting, while the warm water and clear conditions made for comfortable diving throughout the trip.
As with any dive destination, the appropriate site and route depend on a diver’s training, experience and the conditions on the day. Diving with a knowledgeable local guide was a valuable part of the experience.
Diving with Octopus World Dahab
I booked the trip through Octopus World Dahab, a PADI dive centre based in the Lighthouse area. The team were friendly, knowledgeable and well equipped.
Emad, the owner, helped create a welcoming atmosphere. Shady looked after bookings and administration at the counter, while my dive guide, Tito, also known as Mohamed, provided local knowledge during the dives.
The daily arrangements worked smoothly. I was picked up promptly from my hotel at 8:30am each morning and returned after diving. Those details make a difference when you want to concentrate on the day ahead rather than sorting out transport and timings.
Lunch was another highlight. We stopped at some excellent venues, and the food was fresh and delicious. It was a great opportunity to relax, talk through the dives and enjoy Dahab away from the water.
How does Dahab compare with Sharm el-Sheikh?
I found many of the Dahab sites vibrant and enjoyable, with plenty to appreciate in the underwater scenery. From my own experience, several compared well with dives around Sharm el-Sheikh.
The two destinations offer different strengths, though. If wreck diving is the main reason for your trip, I would choose Sharm el-Sheikh for its greater choice. I also found more variety in marine life in other regions of Egypt. That is a personal comparison based on the diving I have done, rather than a drawback in how Octopus World ran this trip.
My verdict on diving in Dahab
I would give the experience 8/10. The clear, warm water, memorable sites and helpful team at Octopus World made this a very enjoyable three days. The only reason I would not score it higher is my preference for the wider variety of marine life and wreck diving I have experienced elsewhere in Egypt.
Dahab is well worth considering if you want to explore some of the Red Sea’s best-known sites with a knowledgeable local team. For Jeff’s Diving World, the trip also brought the pleasure of diving together and bringing home photos and stories to share with our members.
