Resting in approximately 15–16 metres of water\, these experimental amphibious tanks were lost during Exercise Smash in April 1944\, a major rehearsal ahead of the D-Day landings. \nToday the site serves as both an incredible dive location and an official war grave\, so all divers are asked to show the utmost respect while visiting. \nWhat You’ll Experience\n\nDive two historic Valentine Duplex Drive (DD) tanks.\nExplore one of the UK’s most famous WWII underwater sites.\nSuitable for Open Water divers and above.\nMaximum depth of approximately 16 metres.\nDiscover thriving marine life including:\n\nLarge conger eels\nShoals of fish\nCrabs\, wrasse and other reef species\n\n\nLearn about the history of Exercise Smash and the role these tanks played in preparations for D-Day.\nEnjoy a relaxed guided dive with fellow members of Jeff’s Diving World.\n\n  \nDive Site Information\nThe two main tanks lie approximately 60 metres apart on relatively flat sandy seabed. Shot lines are normally attached to the first tank\, allowing divers to navigate comfortably between both wrecks. \nAlthough visibility varies depending on tides and weather\, the site is generally considered an excellent shallow wreck dive and is popular with photographers\, historians and recreational divers alike. \nImportant Information\n\nMaximum Depth: 15–16 metres\nMinimum Qualification: Open Water Diver (or equivalent)\nDive Time: Approximately 45–60 minutes (conditions dependent)\nSurface Interval and Briefing Included\nEquipment Hire Available (subject to availability)\nBoat launch via local Swanage charter operator\n\nRespecting History\nThese tanks were lost during Exercise Smash in April 1944\, resulting in the tragic loss of six servicemen. The site is recognised as an official war grave\, and divers are reminded not to disturb or remove anything from the wrecks. \nWe dive to remember\, learn and preserve this important piece of British history. \nReserve Your Place\nPlaces are limited and allocated on a first-come\, first-served basis. \nFor bookings and further information visit: \n🌐 https://jeffsdivingworld.com \nWe look forward to diving with you beneath the waters of Dorset to experience one of Britain’s most remarkable underwater historical sites. \n
